Recycle your used coffee bags!

Send us your empty Mugging Whales Coffee bags and receive a FREE bag of coffee!

One of the things we have been struggling with in our business is finding environmentally-friendly packaging that also maintains the freshness of our coffee beans. In order to maintain freshness, the majority of coffee bags are high barrier, which means they have a foil lining on the inside and a thin layer of plastic on the outside. (These are the type of bags you will find on most grocery store shelves, as well as in coffee shops.) Because they are made up of these two materials laminated together, most recycling programs in Canada will not accept them.

After some research, we have discovered a company in Canada that recycles the “non-recyclable” including used coffee bags! This has inspired us to start our own recycling program to help reduce some of this waste that ends up in our landfills, oceans, etc.

Here's how it works

  • FILL A BOX with bundles of nine (9) empty Mugging Whales Coffee bags. (hint: reuse one of the boxes that your coffee ships in!).


    REQUEST A PRE-PAID SHIPPING LABEL through the form below. Please indicate if you would prefer:

    • a label that you can print at home
    • or a QR code to bring to a Canada Post location and they will print the label for you


    WE'LL CREATE A LABEL using your shipping address and email from your last online order (this is to verify that it is coming from you and not a fraudulent return).


    ONCE YOU RECEIVE THE LABEL BY EMAIL, seal your box of empty bags and take it to a Canada Post location, along with:

    • the printed label attached to the box
    • or show the QR code so they can print and attach the label for you


    PLEASE NOTE: pre-paid shipping labels are valid for 30 days from date of issue. Once they expire, you will need to request a new label.

As soon as we receive your bags, we'll add 500 Coffee Bean rewards to your account for each bundle of nine (9) bags. These reward points can be redeemed for $21 OFF (one free 340g bag of coffee!) on your next online order!

Do you have coffee bags from other brands?

We can recycle those too! Unfortunately they won’t count toward your free bag, but it does get them out of the landfills. Just send them to us along with your nine (9) empty Mugging Whales Coffee bags and we’ll make sure they all get recycled!
